Returning to the East: A Spring Reawakening for the Soul-Led Woman
Author: Meghan Gilroy
THE FIRST SIGNS OF SPRING
As I was sitting on my favorite trailside bench on a hike last week, my heart soared as I spotted the first bluebird of the season – the sure signal that spring has arrived. A few days later, my 10-year-old daughter excitedly tugged me up to our pond – the peeper frogs have returned with their vernal song. In our orchard, the fruit trees are in their pink and white bloom.
With these first sings of spring, I find myself standing once again at the East—both literally and spiritually.
THE EAST IN THE SPIRAL PATH OF LIFE
In my Spiral Path teachings drawn from 7 Sacred Directions traditions from cultures around the world, East marks a sacred turning point: the direction of new beginnings, inspiration, and soul vision.
After a long inner winter of turning inward and shedding what no longer serves us, this is where we stretch toward the light and remember who we are becoming.
This season, I’ve been reflecting on how many of my heart-led clients feel themselves waking up—yet also overwhelmed, scattered, or still tangled in the residue of an older version of themselves.
They know they’re meant for more.
They can feel the new life stirring within… but they’re not sure how to plant those seeds in a grounded, soul-aligned way.
When you sprinkle in the intensity of what’s happening nationally and globally, the repeated “only-happens-once-in-a-lifetime” astrology ruling the skies and the pace of their personal lives, it’s no wonder that many of them report feeling “all over the place” in the hot-cold, sunny-snowy, expanding-contracting contrasts of spring.
So here’s a gentle invitation to return to your own inner East - to reconnect with the spark of your soul’s calling and step into the next chapter of your sacred work – whether that’s with your family, career, retirement, personal growth or a community or creative project.
CYCLICAL WISDOM
On the Spiral Path of Life, there are 7 directions: East, South, West, North, Above, Below and Center, each carrying their own wisdom, energy and practical actions.
We revisit each direction cyclically - not as a linear progression, but as a living spiral. The East is where we receive vision, where we begin again. It’s the dawn of a new day, the time to find a new vision. And just like the earth softening after a long freeze, we too soften and thaw as we reawaken to our inner truth.
Many of the women I serve— healers, leaders, entrepreneurs, mothers, coaches, and creatives—come to me in seasons of transition. Their lives look successful on the outside, but inside they feel off-kilter.
They’ve outgrown old ways of working, relating, or being. Something deep within them is stirring, yet the outer clarity hasn’t landed. Often, they’re just 2–15 degrees off their true purpose.
Spring offers a natural moment to pause and realign. This isn’t about hustling into a new identity. It’s about tuning in—listening. It’s about cultivating space to hear your soul’s whispers before you act.
SPRING SOUL PRACTICES
If this resonates with you, here are a few soul practices I recommend for this sacred season:
• Eastward Reflection
Find a quiet place, and journal on the following:
- What is awakening in me right now?
- Where am I being called to begin again?
- What soul seed am I ready to plant this season?
• Simplify to Clarify:
What can you release from your schedule, your mind, or your energetic field that isn’t aligned with your soul’s truth?
Spring is about pruning, not piling on.
• Anchor Your Vision with Support:
We aren’t meant to rebirth ourselves alone. Whether through sisterhood, mentorship, or sacred spaces, your unfolding needs nurturing.
What kind of support would allow your next becoming to feel spacious, sacred, and sustainable?
SPRING’S INVITATION FOR YOU
Spring isn’t just a metaphor. It’s a lived, embodied invitation to wake up from the slumber of who-you-used-to-be and open to the possibility of who-you’re-becoming. The East reminds us that every beginning is sacred—and that your path, though uncertain, is deeply wise.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You only need to be willing to turn toward the light, listen deeply, and take the next right step.
What might yours be?
